Google introduces Online Python coding course for tech jobs

The US-based technology giant Google has introduced a new google IT Automation with Python Professional Certification program that’s intended to provide job-ready abilities in Python, Git and IT automation in six months.

“Python has become the most in-demand programming language, and over 530,000 U.S. jobs and 75,000 entry-level jobs demand Python proficiency. With this new certification, you are able to learn Python, Git and IT automation in six months,” Natalie Van Kleef Conley Product Lead, Grow with Google, said in an announcement on Thursday.

The program involves a final project where students will utilize their Python skills to fix a problem that they may encounter at work, like creating a web service with automation.

“To make sure students from underserved backgrounds have access to IT Professional Certificates, Google will fund 2,500 need-based scholarships through nonprofits such as Goodwill, Merit America, Per Scholas and Upwardly Global. Together with leading companies like Walmart, Hulu and Sprint, Google considers program completers when hiring for IT roles,” Conley added.

Microsoft also launched a free Python for Beginners course on YouTube last year, which also introduces learners to the various tools for building AI applications in Microsoft’s Azure cloud.

Back in October last year, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and White House advisor Ivanka Trump announced a plan to provide 250,000 Americans training opportunities to teach technology skills.

At the time, Pichai also mentioned that Google’s program for certifying IT professionals will expand to 100 US community colleges by the end of 2020.
