If you’re running a business, then it’s paramount that you upload a profile image such as your logo so that people can identify your brand. The last thing you want is people landing on your Twitter page and not knowing who it belongs to. If you’re using a Twitter account for personal use, then uploading goofy headshot might attract some attention. You should also add a relevant cover shot to your Twitter page making it more visually appealing.
Once you have added images to your profile, you should complete your bio. Try writing something catchy that perfectly describes what your business or yourself is all about. If you run a business, then you should mention your business location in your Twitter profile; making your business profile look more professional and legitimate. Don’t forget to incorporate relevant keywords in your username and bio as Twitter pages rank well on Google.
Retweeting is another fantastic way of building relationships with other Twitter users. It acknowledges that you saw and read what someone posts. There are a few things you should consider doing when retweeting.
Retweet things that you believe have merit and should be viewed by your followers.
Make sure to add some value by commenting on your retweets. Perhaps just a simple “Thank you” may suffice.
Engage with the users by asking them questions in retweets.
Retweet 3-6 times a day from different influencers.
Add hashtags that build interest of your target audience.
Share great content:
It’s a no brainer that sharing great content will get people talking. As many have said before, content is king, and if you focus on sharing compelling visual content with your audience, you are sure to lure in new followers.
Are you lost for content ideas? Try some of these things.
Try sharing some inspirational quotes that your followers can relate to.
If you’re a business, try sharing a coupon code that will get your audience a discount on their next purchase.
Funny content is a big hit with people. Share a funny joke or image.
The possibilities are endless. You are sure to increase your following if you can be creative and think outside the box.
Schedule your tweets:
If you’re running a business, schedule your Tweets with good visuals a week or two before. Doing this will save you time and allow you to post tweets at the optimal time for your audience. Studies show that the best time to post for any audience is in the early afternoon. This might not be the case for your audience but through trial and error, you can determine what works best for you.
Cross-promote twitter account:
Promoting your Twitter account on your other social platforms is great for getting new followers. Especially if you have followers on other platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. People are loyal and will see that you’re on Twitter and will give you a follow. You should also make sure to add your Twitter account handle on your website to drive awareness to your web visitors. Twitter isn’t going anywhere so it would be a good idea to add your social media accounts to your business cards and email signatures. The more places you share it, the more likely new people will come across your page.
Post tweets with regular consistency. The worst thing you can do is let your Twitter page go stale with old content. If people come across your page and see you haven’t been active in a while, then they surely won’t give you a follow. Being consistent with your tweets will get you more re-tweets and engagement thus increasing your changes or growing your following.
Twitter allows you to include hashtags in your posts. Hashtags work as a sort of category for your content. When someone searches for the “cake” hashtag anything with that hashtag will be displayed. This sounds awesome, and you might be tempted to stuff as many hashtags as you can into your tweets but don’t; it will come across as looking illegitimate and spammy. Try keeping your hashtags to 2 or 3 that are relevant to what you’re tweeting about.
Like Facebook and Instagram, people love to engage with videos by sharing, watching and talking about on Twitter. It works like a magnet, and if you can create a video that goes viral, you are sure to get loads of new followers. Twitter allows you to publish videos up to 2 minutes and 20 seconds long. Peoples attention span is short so keep your videos short and detailed work best for engaging with users. Don’t be too promotional:
Be decent if your goal with a twitter account is gaining prospects and sales. It’s okay if the sole purpose of your Twitter account is to acquire new customers. Value addition in the form of offering discounts or asking questions (like “how does this product look?”) can encourage people to connect with your brand or account. Share exciting ideas, new things, and trends that are relevant to your business line. You can also mention website blog links in your tweets as it will help to fly your potential prospects from twitter to your website.
Connect with people by responding to each and any comment on your Tweets. This will show people that you care and will encourage more engagement. Try answering with a question so that the person will be inclined to write back. Participate in popular trends and hashtags with thoughtful comments as Twitter users love to read and engage in hashtags on a daily basis. Similarly, join niche’s relevant discussions, if you’re running a local business.
Doing any number of the things listed above will drive more exposure for your Twitter page. Remember that it takes lots of time to see results.
