Tips and Advice for Profitable NFL Betting

We are a few weeks away from the Super Bowl and on the verge of the NFL playoffs. That’s the time of the year when fans go wild about American football, and all those who love football throw a few bucks here and there on betting.

We already have pretty clear NFL odds about the Super Bowl winners, the MVP contenders, etc., but we are here to give you the basic info about betting on the NFL games in general. Stay tuned for the next couple of minutes; you will find interesting data.

The top three bets on NFL are moneyline, totals, and spread, and here is something on each of it.

NFL League

1. Moneylines

Moneyline betting is the least complicated of all. That’s when you predict the full-time winner of one event and bet on him. In a hypothetical game between the Falcons and the Jets, you pick the Jets to triumph and stake money.

What is important to understand moneyline betting are odds. In that game, the Falcons are the favorites, and the odds on them are -160, while the Jets sit at +140.

The explanation of these numbers is easy. Atlanta Falcons’ odds mean you need to risk $160 to earn $100. Meanwhile, the Jets’ odds signal that on $100 put on their win, the return is $140.

2. Point Totals

Totals consider the number of points in one game. Some call it over/under or the NFL lines, and there’s no difference between these two terms. In this case, the punter is only interested in the total number of points scored by both teams.

If we have, for example, a line set at 47.5 points, there are two choices to bet on, under and over, with the same odds for either offer, -110. The winner of the game isn’t important, just the number of points.

3. Spreads

Regarding the spread, there is a small catch, but nothing complicated. The bookmakers are trying to even the odds between the teams. The way to do it is to take away a certain amount of points from the favorite and add it to the underdog.

Let’s say that the Falcons are favorites. The bookmakers will put a spread of -4.5 points on the franchise from Atlanta, meaning that they need to beat the rivals by at least five points to make a bet successful.

Meanwhile, the Jets have the luxury of losing up to four points as an underdog. The Vegas NFL odds here are also even at -110.

Tips

The first and ultimate factor is team quality. If one team has better players and looks better, its chances of winning are very high. This factor is closely correlated with the second one, which would be the team’s form.

You need to analyze the team’s recent results and how their leading players performed, and only then make decisions based on that research, not a lucky guess

Absent players are next on our list. Not all players have the same value for the team. Some have leading roles, while others are filling in the rotation.

You will need to check which players are ineligible for playing, and if some of the stars are out, carefully revise which pick to make or whether to bet on that game at all.

Always follow the information on the weather. We are sure this looks pretty hilarious to you, but some teams have outdoor stadiums, and the weather conditions have a massive influence on the development of the field.

Just imagine the snow in Green Bay or the rain in Seattle; it’s bound to create problems for the offenses and give the edge to the defensive units.

This isn’t a detailed NFL betting guide but a basic explanation of the most critical betting terms and a list of a few crucial tips and advice that could increase your betting quests’ profitability.

If you stick with these guidelines, there is a high chance your wallet might be thicker.
